Over eighty students from the Springfield Community Center will host a gallery opening titled “Things I Love” at The Creamery Arts Center, Friday, August 7 from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m., featuring work created during Arts in the Park Summer Workshops, a program of the Springfield Regional Arts Council.

Arts in the Park Summer Workshops, developed for the children attending the Springfield Community Center at Berry School, kicked off in the summer of 2001. With funding through the Missouri Arts Council and the U.S. Department of Education, seven organizations collaborated to bring high quality arts programming to roughly 100 students throughout the summer including Springfield Ballet, Springfield Little Theatre, Springfield Regional Arts Council, Springfield Regional Opera, Springfield Symphony, the Claymobile and The Warrior Woman – Spoken Word Poetry.

This summer will mark the eighth year of this successful program, which is held at the Creamery Arts Center in Jordan Valley Park.

The public is invited to share in the creations of these students, including pottery, painting, costume design, film, photography, puppetry and performance art. The gallery will also be open on First Friday Art Walk from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, August 7. The exhibition will run through the month of August, Monday-Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
