The Springfield Regional Arts Council is excited to announce that Rachel Johnson will join the organization as Director of Programs and Exhibitions in October 2017. Johnson returns to the area after serving as Director and Curator of the Lake Region Heritage Center in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota. Prior to that position she was a member of the curatorial team at the Springfield Art Museum.
“Rachel brings fresh ideas to the position. With her background in museums and passion for community arts education, she is a dynamic addition to the SRAC team,” Leslie Forrester, SRAC executive director, says.
Johnson holds a degree in Art History, a minor in Art, and is pursuing a Masters in Museum Studies. While with the Springfield Art Museum, Johnson was in contact with artists from the Midwest and all over the nation, helping to facilitate inclusion of their works in exhibits through loans to the museum.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back to Springfield and hitting the ground running. It’s where I’m from—the first community I was a part of,” Johnson says. “My experience in Springfield helped define myself as an artist. The administrative experience (in North Dakota) has brought the more professional side to the table.”
