As you may have read, in his proposed budget President Donald Trump has recommended a massive $54 million in cuts to domestic programs in the coming year. Included in his proposed cuts is the elimination of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) along with many other federal agencies including the National Endowment for Humanities and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Take just 2 minutes now to contact your members of Congress and join the #SaveTheNEA movement.
The Springfield Regional Arts Council, as well as many other arts organizations in Missouri, has received funding from the NEA for many years through the Missouri Arts Council and most recently through direct funding support for the ideaXfactory.
For more than 50 years, the NEA has ensured access to the arts for all Americans. The impact of the NEA is significant:
- NEA grants have been awarded in all 50 states and U.S. Territories.
- NEA funds support arts therapists in 12 military hospitals to help returning soldiers heal from traumatic brain injuries.
- NEA generates more than $600 million in economic impact annually.
The good news is this proposal is just one early step in a long budget process. We must work together and let Congress know why the NEA is important to us. Just two minutes is all it takes to #SaveTheNEA.
