Greene County Administrative Office to Feature Local Artist
Tuesday, July 08, 2008
In conjunction with the Springfield Regional Arts Council's "Art In Public Places Program", Audrey Bottrell will be the first artist to display artwork in the newly-created exhibition area of the Greene County Administrative Building located at 933 N. Robberson. The exhibit, opening July 11 and remaining through August 14, is open to the public to enjoy during County office hours, 8AM to 4:30PM. "We are thrilled that we now have a new venue to display artists' works," says Sandra CH Smith, executive director of the Arts Council. "It is thanks to Commissioner Roseann Bentley who realizes the importance of art in the workplace and initiated the new gallery space in the County offices." Audrey Bottrell, commissioned artist for the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame and PGA golfers, earned her degree in Art Education at the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse in 1979. She worked as a high school art teacher before moving to Connecticut where she worked for Carol Bancroft and Friends, a renowned Art Agency. In 1988, Audrey formed her portrait business using her unique ability to capture the very essence of her subjects. Her portraits can be seen in private and business collections around the world and portraits of four PGA golfers aired on national television and in promotional materials after she was commissioned by ESPN in 2003 and 2004 to draw the golfers for their Skins Game. Audrey continues her teaching career by offering ongoing weekly classes in the Springfield area. The Arts Council's next Art in Public Places opening will be July 16 at Peoples Bank of the Ozarks at 305 Mt. Vernon in Nixa. Any artist interested in participating in the Art in Public Places program, either as an artist or as a partnering business, may contact the Springfield Regional Arts Council, (417) 862-ARTS (2787) or e-mail Info@SpringfieldArts.org. This program is funded in part by the Missouri Arts Council.
