Peoples Bank of the Ozarks to Feature Christian County Artists
Tuesday, July 08, 2008
As part of the Springfield Regional Arts Council’s Art in Public Places Program, Peoples Bank of the Ozarks, 305 Mt. Vernon, Nixa, will feature local artists Lori Radford, of Highlandville, and Barbara Capel, of Nixa in an exhibit opening July 16 with a reception from 4 PM to 6 PM. The show will remain through August 27 and is free and open to the public. Barbara Capel owned an art gallery in the Texas Hill Country, never thinking that she could paint. After taking a watercolor class, her life changed. In 1994 she began taking workshops from regional and national artists, beginning as a realistic painter and more recently, transitioning into painting abstracts. Now living in Nixa, Barbara belongs to Splatter, a working studio of 17 artists in Springfield, which provides artistic support and inspiration through workshops to those who share a passion for art. Barbara is represented by Centerline Gallery in Woodland, California and was the gallery's featured artist in August 2007. She is a volunteer at Cox Hospital in the Partners in Creative Care Program where she talks about and teaches watercolor painting to cancer patients. Lori Radford began her photography journey working for Photo Services as a student at Missouri State University. A former K-12 art teacher, Lori has been involved in the art arena for many years. Recently, she has shown at local art shows and galleries as well as in Florida. Some of her work can be seen at the Tycoon Gallery on Marco Island, Florida. She has taught summer classes at Drury University and at the Eureka Springs School of the Arts and continues to push the borders with the artistic and alternative photographic process. If you are interested in participating in SRAC's Art in Public Places program, either as an artist or as a partnering business, contact the Springfield Regional Arts Council at (417) 862-ARTS (2787) or e-mail Info@SpringfieldArts.org. The program is funded in part by the Missouri Arts Council.
