First Friday Art Walk in August at the Creamery
Wednesday, July 09, 2008
For the month of August, the Creamery Arts Center (at 411 N. Sherman Parkway across from Hammons Field) will feature the works of Springfield artist Santiago Jim Delgadillo as well as pottery and clayworks by a number of local artists associated with Springfield Pottery and who are some of the Arts Council’s Claymobile teachers. A reception will be held Friday, August 1st from 6 to 9pm with an ARTalk by the artists from 7 to 8pm. Delgadillo, a native of Tucscon, Arizona, has been creating art since he was a child and only within the last 10 years, has turned his love of creating art into a professional career. With an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Arizona and partway through a Masters in Education from Drury University, Delgadillo has incorporated religious images and motifs into his work which come from the strong spiritual environment in which he was raised, often visually narrating the struggle of the human spirit and its desire to create. Delgadillo's mixed-media "boxes", panels and sculpture pieces are of especial interest. Also included in the exhibition will be Springfield Pottery’s "OUTREACH: An Exhibition of Ceramic Work Created by the Claymobile Teachers". Artists exhibiting include Sherri Alexander, Michael Bishop, Ashley Byers, Andrew Eggers, Josh Heaton, Joel Harrison, Brian Lynch, Nathan Falter, and Jennifer Falter. The Claymobile, sponsored by the Arts Council, is a mobile ceramic education outreach program dedicated to serving Springfield and neighboring communities through fun and rewarding programming suitable for schools and community based organizations. The exhibit is open free to the public. For more information, contact Springfield Regional Arts Council, 417-862-ARTS(2787).
