Capitol Steps at the Gillioz
Tuesday, July 29, 2008
On Thursday, August 7, 2007 at 7:30pm join us at the Gillioz Theatre for the political satire group the Capitol Steps. The Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. In the years that followed, many of the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom ("Don't quit your day job!"), and although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total of eighteen Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience. Since they began, the Capitol Steps have recorded 28 albums, including their latest, Campaign and Suffering. They've been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS, and can be heard 4 times a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their Politics Takes a Holiday radio specials. Please join us for what's sure to be a hilarious night on Thursday, August 7th at 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased through Missouri State Tix by calling 1-888-476-7849 or by visiting www.missouristatetix.com. The Gillioz Theatre box office will open one hour before show time for ticket sales. For more information on the Capitol Steps event or the historic Gillioz Theatre, contact Adela Generally, House Manager for the Gillioz Theatre, or visit www.gillioz.org.The Gillioz Theatre was originally built and opened on October 11, 1926, by road and bridge contractor M.E. Gillioz of Monett, Missouri. The theatre entrance is located on St. Louis Street, which is also Historic Route 66. Originally designed as a transition theatre, the Gillioz possessed a pipe organ so that it could be used for both live performances and silent movies. In its early years, the Gillioz was Springfield's premier entertainment venue, hosting a number of movie premiers, including "Swing Your Lady," "The Winning Team," and "She's Working Her Way Through College," all starring Ronald Reagan.
