Special performances this week
Two free performances of IT TAKES LIFE TO LOVE LIFE...life lessons for living with ALS from those who know...will be presented in the Vandivort Center Theatre Thursday and Friday, July 31 and August 1, at 7:30 PM each evening. This production is traveling to Scotland and will represent Central High School at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, where it will be performed four times over the course of the festival.
These performances are FREE, but donations will be accepted for the Walk to D’Feet ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) which helps people with ALS (P’ALS) in the Springfield area.
The play, conceived and scripted by Ryan Baldwin, Samm Hill, Lauren Schriver, Aubrey Smith, Haley Stevens, Ana Taylor, Skyler Thomas and Gretchen Teague, has original music by Skylar Smith and Quinton Patterson Briggs with musical direction by Alberta Smith. The play is staged by Lauren Schriver, Quinton Smith and Gretchen Teague and features Ryan Baldwin, Samm Hill, Lauren Schriver, Aubrey Smith, Ana Taylor, Sky Thomas and Aaron Weiss.
Gretchen Teague states, in her director’s note: “A funny thing happened on our way to the Fringe Festival in 2008...As we began to devise a performance for the Fringe, my family was changed forever. My 16-year old daughter and member of the cast, Haley, was diagnosed with ALS. Because our lives were changed, so was the direction of our script. As the cast began to explore what was happening to their friend they found some wonderfully insightful, funny and touching stories...and one common message was heard lord and clear. Despite the devastation of being diagnosed with ALS, these persons with ALS wanted to live life to the fullest. Out of this discovery came our mission. To share their stories and our story to the world.”
Vandivort Center Theatre is a Partner in Education with Central High School.
