Wood and Huston Bank Jumps on the Banks are Beautiful! Program

Wood and Huston Bank (204 W. Primrose) will host an exhibit of original artwork by local artists Jan Bennicoff and Joan Smith, opening with a reception on Thursday, August 14 from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public and will remain until September 25. Jan Bennicoff, Springfield, has training not only as an artist, but also as a writer and a classical soprano. She got her start writing and illustrating for the Outpost Exchange, a natural food publication in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jan later did illustrations for Today Woman Magazine in Springfield. Her work spans a wide array of media including watercolor, egg tempera, and oil. She is a member of the Springfield Visual Arts Alliance, Table Rock Art Guild and Best of Missouri Hands. Joan Smith, Ozark, is an expressionist painter who, for inspiration, has studied the work of well-known artists such as Guido Frick and Sergei Bongar. As a member of Splatter Art Studio in Springfield, Joan shows her work in studio shows as well as local galleries and is a member of the Springfield Regional Arts Council. This past May, she won the Best in Show award at the Regional Color Show at Waverly Gift and Gallery. Watch for other Art in Public Places exhibits sponsored by the Springfield Regional Arts Council.
