First Annual Nixa Community Fest

Thursday, August 14, 2008

The Nixa Area Arts Council and The Center of Nixa are hosting the First Annual Nixa Community Fest. This family-oriented event will be held on Labor Day, September 1st, 2008. The day will start with a 5k run at 9 am. There will be a plein air art contest at 10am, with judging and prizes for the winners. A fine arts exhibit will be held inside the Center from 10 to 6. Many local artists will be displaying their work and Gavyn Sky from Springfield is scheduled to be the featured artist. Original art can be purchased from each artist. A special exhibit entitled, "On the Inside Looking Up," will also be shown. It will spotlight some wonderful art created by inmates from the New York prison system. Local singers, dance teams, and bands will be performing on stage from noon to 8 pm. The band "LOST HIGHWAY" will conclude the evening with a concert beginning at 6 pm.

Free burgers and hot dogs from 12 - 2 for the first few hundred visitors, face painting and inflatables for the kids, as well as a "PAW PRINT" fundraiser for a local no-kill animal shelter will also be part of the planned activities. If you’re a dog lover, bring your swim trunks and your dog for the annual "Doggie Dive In" at the Center Pool.

The Center is located at 701 N Taylor Way, 1/2 mile east of the Nixa Jr. High School. Anyone interested in running in the 5k or being a food vendor can contact the Center at 725-5486. Artists can register through August 15th for the art events by contacting Annette Broy at annettebroy@hotmail.com.
