Creamery Offers Theatre of the Oppressed Beginning Sept.14th at the Creamery

Springfield Regional Arts Council is offering an on-going performance laboratory that engages social issues through the use of Augusto Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed techniques. Participants in the Springfield Theatre of the Oppressed (STOP) Labs will practice Image Theatre and Forum Theatre with the aim of developing interactive performances designed to engage and activate audiences, inspiring civic dialogue and social change. STOP Labs will be held every other Sunday, beginning Sept. 14th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in The Creamery Arts Center's Board Room and will be facilitated by Jon Herbert, instructor of Theatre Arts at Ozarks Technical Community College. Herbert has studied these techniques involving ethics and aesthetics for a number of years and has attended the Theatre of the Oppressed annual conference held for the past 17 years at the University of Nebraska. Membership in the Arts Council is encouraged and annual dues are:Artists/Writers/Actors - $20;
College Students - $10;
High School Students - $5.
