Summer Writing Camps, Grades 3-6

At the Summer Writers’ Camps sponsored by the Center for Writing in College, Career, and Community, participants develop their craft in an intensive workshop experience, exploring a variety of genres and writing strategies. 

Week One: What’s Your Story? Focus on Choice of Fiction or Non-fiction Narrative, July 23-26, 9 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.

Week Two: Engaging in Topics that Matter: Focus on Informative/Argument/Opinion, July 30- Aug. 2, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Spray Paint Art for Teens Workshop

‘Spray Paint Art’ June 23 at Library Station

Registration is underway for teens in grades 6-12 to attend Spray Paint Art from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, at the Library Station, 2535 N. Kansas Expressway.

Artist Taylor Hopkins will demonstrate how to use spray paint to create works of art, then create your own amazing artwork to take home. Materials will be provided.

Rock Out with Drums at Strafford Branch Library

‘Rock Out With Drums!’ June 23 at Strafford Branch Library

Registration is underway for adults to attend Rock Out With Drums! at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, at the Strafford Branch Library, 101 S. State Highway 125.

Jennifer Jester, Missouri State University professor and owner of Springfield’s School of Rock, will help you find your rhythm with a session of drumming for people who think they have no rhythm or have always wanted to drum.

Intro to Watercolor Workshop at The Springfield Art Museum

Join instructor Kerra Taylor for this one day, four hour workshop covering fundamentals of watercolor painting, touching on materials, surface preparation, application techniques, color theory, and color mixing. Participants will complete two small still-life paintings. Register online and/or view the necessary supplies list. Materials not included.

Portraits of Courage: An Evening with Sedrick Huckaby

Sedrick Huckaby, former art instructor for President Bush, will join us on Monday, June 11 at 7 p.m. for a seminar and demonstration. Mr. Huckaby is a distinguished artist and professor at the University of Texas at Arlington. He is known for his techniques in monumental scale, heavy layers of paint, interplay of light and shadow and a sense of soft texture that defies the hardness of the thick impasto on canvas.
