The Southern Missouri Arts Connection presents approximately 12 exhibitions throughout the year in our Art Center Gallery. The program presents a diverse range of creative approaches, mediums, and background in artists. The Southern Missouri Arts Connection began in 2014. It has been in its current location on Downing Street in Hollister, Missouri’s historic district since July of 2020. Exhibitions at the SMAC Arts Center originate by the Gallery Committee or from exhibition proposals submitted by outside curators and artists. All proposals should aim to present exhibitions that are aesthetically strong, and that provide the community with the opportunity to explore topics of cultural, artistic, and social relevance.
The curator/artist proposing the exhibition is encouraged to view gallery specifications and see the space during gallery hours to tailor their proposal to the space.
Proposal submissions are accepted year round. All proposals must adhere to the guidelines. But the deadline for proposals for the coming year must be submitted no later than August 31. The gallery committee will then meet in September to review all the proposals and make it’s decisions based on the following criteria:
Résumé
Résumé should be typed with 8.5″ x 11″ format in no less than 10-point font. PDF
Group proposals should include all participants’ resumes.

Our 7-member gallery committee will review each individual proposal and use a 5-question scoring sheet to select exhibitors. Each proposal will be rated on a scale of 1-6 in the content areas of technical skill, originality/creativity, concept, composition and marketability. The ratings will be tallied for each proposal and the highest numbers will be offered an open slot on our 2024 schedule.
If you have not visited the SMAC Gallery before, we highly recommend that you come and see the space in person. Our gallery is welcoming and offers viewers an intimate art experience. You can find the gallery dimensions on our website for review.
If all guidelines are not met your proposal might be rejected. Please direct all inquiries to Mary Evelyn Tucker: [email protected]
