Artist Registry
The Springfield Regional Arts Council has created a registry of artists in Springfield and our 27-county region in Southwest Missouri. The Artist Registry is compiled as a comprehensive catalogue and made available at local design trade shows and business expositions for residential and commercial purposes. Images of the artists’ works are also presented in an electronic slideshow at various events and locations.
Click an artist name to learn more and get a closer look at the artist's work. Artists should only be contacted for inquiries in buying, commissioning, or exhibiting their artwork.

I have always been motivated by others perception of artwork. As a long-time Docent for the Springfield Art Museum, I channel that motivation of the experience of interaction with artwork into my own pieces.

I see the painter as analogous to an actor/director bringing the viewer along to new places, memories, dreams, and family histories. I like to give the viewer space to interpret what they see on the canvas. Center stage in my art is the figure - an object in motion, as if the figure is caught, just for an instant; a glimpse, a snapshot before the gesture is complete. I'm not in search of exact representation. I'm intent rather on provoking a sense of tension or intensity. These plus color, bring the emotion to the painting.

I grew up on the High Plains in the Texas Panhandle, and that is where I first learned to take nothing seriously. Emptiness plays an important role in both my poetry and my painting: I often find myself spending as much time on what is not there as on what is. This usually means focusing on a single image and letting the whole composition spring up around it — not a narrative but an all at once that evokes a here and now that is, here, now, neither. A likely story is likely to grow out of this when readers and viewers encounter it, but I hope my art always invites more than it contains.

Susan's thoughts: "Art has been a large part of my life since childhood. I strive to tell stories with my paintings that might touch your heart or make you ponder. Moments in time that might not be here tomorrow."
This quote says it for me so well: "What is art but a mold in which to imprison for a moment the shining, elusive element which is life itself—life hurrying past us and running away, too strong to stop, too sweet to lose." Willa Cather (1876-1947)

MediumPraise God for the gift of painting. When I paint, I am drawn into my own world, just me and the canvas. The moment I began oil painting as a teenager, I was smitten and my love for painting continues to grow."
