Nixa, Missouri—Lucid TLC Studio & Art Gallery will host the art of area artist Greg Chappell as its featured artist for October. The studio/gallery is located at 214 north Massey Boulevard. An opening night reception will be held Saturday, October 7, 6-8 p.m. Chappell, who is a representational painter, will be available to answer questions. Music and refreshments will also be available. This reception is free and open to the public. To see the featured artwork at other times during the month contact proprietor Tiffany Collins at (417) 755-3724 to arrange a viewing.
Growing up in a military family, Chappell had the opportunity to visit art museums throughout the Western World. Yet, in school he was disappointed in the art curriculum wherever he attended. “As an adult, I took it upon myself to study the Old Masters and experiment with pigments to unlock the secrets of their techniques,” he said.
This experimentation and study led to developing his own style, which he employs today. Chappell’s style can best be described as a hybrid of wet-on-dry techniques used by the likes of DaVinci, Michelangelo and Raphael, infused with light capturing techniques of the Impressionists, such as Monet.
