At Ease: Veteran Contemporary, a national exhibit of veteran art about the veteran experience, opens Friday night, August 17th at Spiva Center for the Arts in Joplin. Works from the National Veteran Museum in Chicago, Art and the Military in Maryland, Jim Leedy of Kansas City, and Edmund Ness of Baxter Springs are included in this exhibit.
In conjunction with the exhibit, Spiva is holding an "Art and the Military Panel Discussion" on August 18th, featuring Dr. Tara Tappert of Art and the Military, Geraldine Craig of the KState Art Department, Ted and Amy Donaldson of Compass Quest, and David Ross, Joplin area veteran and Vet Art participant.
There will also be a Veteran Family Picnic and Heartland Concert Band Ensemble on September 22nd.
Spiva also offers Vet Art, monthly workshops for veterans in the Joplin area every first Thursday.
