Rated SGF Film Festival debuted in March 2018 with the intent of creating an authentic experience between audience and storytellers for the Springfield community. This new festival is now taking short, feature and documentary film submissions for its next event on March 22 & 23, 2019.
Any filmmaker can submit their work online at FilmFreeway.com/RatedSGF. Students enjoy a discounted rate on the submission fee.
Early-bird rate for submissions close on Oct. 22, and final deadline for applications are Nov. 26. Rated SGF will be held March 22 & 23, 2019, at the Historic Fox Theatre.
The festival selects winners ahead of time, curating films that earn the "Rated SGF" stamp of approval. If a film is selected, a department head from the film will be offered an all-expense paid trip to the film festival with star-rated hospitality. After the screening of the selected film, the filmmakers will participate in a 30-45 minute Q&A with the audience as well as be honored at the Hotel Vandivort After Party.
In its inaugural year, featured guests included: David Lowery, Luka Kain, Brook Linder, Josh Pfaff and Sean Thiessen. Thiessen recapped his experience this way: "I loved Rated SGF. The hospitality and reverence for movies makes it exactly what a film festival should be: a celebration.
