Rated SGF Film Festival announces films

Rated SGF

Oscar-winning short subject documentary "Period. End Of Sentence." is one of six films selected for screening at the 2019 Rated SGF Film Festival, March 22-23 at the Historic Fox Theatre on Park Central Square.

Rated SGF is presented by Simmons Bank and Hotel Vandivort. The festival is managed by theDowntown Springfield Association and the Film & Media Association of Springfield. The festival's lineup also includes two feature films and three more shorts.

The full schedule for the festival will be announced soon. Each screening includes live music and a Q&A with a special guest from each film. 

"American Animals" (2018) 116 min. 
The unbelievable true story of four young men who attempt to execute one of the most audacious art heists in U.S. history. They formulate the perfect robbery, only to discover that the plan has taken on a life of its own. "American Animals" uses both documentary and dramatization to tell the story. Warren Lipka, one of the four participants in the heist, will take part in the Q&A.

"Bisbee '17" (2018) 112 min. 
An old mining town on the Arizona-Mexico border finally reckons with its darkest day: the deportation of 1,200 immigrant miners exactly 100 years ago. Bisbee locals collaborate to stage recreations of their controversial past. Director Robert Greene will take part in a Q&A. He is also an assistant professor and serves as the filmmaker-in-chief at the Jonathan B. Murray Center for Documentary Journalism at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. 

"Dust" (2018) 24 min. 
On the hunt for a story, a young android reporter tracks down "The Developer," a mysterious synthetic-advocate, and uncovers the truth about his black market software updates. The post-screening Q&A will feature a panel of guests from the horror shorts. Director Logan K. Triplett will represent "Dust." The 2018 graduate of Missouri State University's Electronic Arts program served as cinematographer on the award-winning 2017 comedic short "Posers."

"Loom" (2018) 30 min. 
Adam and Shelly's romantic Halloween camping trip turns into a fight for survival. Run like hell, fight like hell, but, most importantly, howl like hell. The supernatural thriller is directed by Kevin Rothlisberger, who will be the special guest for the horror short Q&A panel. He moved back to St. Louis last May to complete this film.

"Period. End Of Sentence." (2018) 26 min. 
In a rural village outside of Dehli, India, women lead a quiet revolution. They fight against the deeply rooted stigma of menstruation. Rayka Zehtabchi directs this documentary short, which tells their story. The special guest for the post-screening Q&A will be announced soon.

"The Last Séance" (2018) 16 min. During the course of one terrifying séance, two sisters must defeat an evil demon. This short horror flick has gotten acclaim all across the film circuit, including winning the Audience Choice Award: "Edge of Your Seat" at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth. Director Laura Kulik will join the horror panel for the Q&A.

The full schedule for Rated SGF will be announced at a later date. Weekend passes and individual screening passes are on sale now through 417 Tix. Different pass levels include different perks and events. Weekend passes include access to every Rated SGF event, including all film screenings, Q&As and access to the After Party at Hotel Vandivort.
