Celebrities Come Together for a Virtual Graduation Commencement for Springfield foster youth

In collaboration with I Pour Life, a nonprofit that coaches older foster and at-risk youth, more than 20 celebrities congratulate Springfield foster youth in a collaborative graduation speech via video.

The video, which is released today, May 12, features a variety of celebrities including actors and actresses, YouTube stars, and professional athletes among other public figures. Alyson Stoner, a longtime ambassador for I Pour Life, opened and closed the commencement speech that featured talent including Chrissy Metz, Rainn Wilson, Francia Raisa, King Bach, Kurt Schneider, and Springfield native, Lucas Grabeel. In regards to overwhelming support the video received from her peers, Alyson Stoner said, “What started as a small gesture to celebrate the foster youth in our program quickly caught wind and took on a life of its own, with over 20 influential celebrities and leaders supporting the mission to recognize an incredible accomplishment that was somewhat overshadowed by the pandemic

The virtual commencement acknowledged the unique challenges that the graduating class of 2020 has faced, honored their sacrifice for the wellbeing of others, and empowered them to approach the unknown with 20/20 vision full of trust and compassion that will leave a legacy.

The video was created in honor of the 29 foster and at-risk youth who are part of I Pour Life’s LifeStrengths program and missed out on their graduation ceremony this month. Nationally, 63% of foster youth complete their high school degree or GED. Approximately 3% of former foster youth attain a bachelor’s degree. While a graduation of any kind is an enormous feat, foster and at-risk youth celebrate this achievement having overcome many obstacles along the way.

I Pour Life is a nonprofit headquartered in Springfield, MO and coaches older foster and at-risk youth through LifeStrengths, an evidence-based positive youth development program. Youth who are part of LifeStrengths are coached to a state of self-sufficiency upon aging out of government care. I Pour Life provides one-on-one coaching to set and achieve goals including completing education, advancing in workforce development and financial literacy, securing stable housing, and resolving any criminal history along with other personal goals.

The virtual graduation commencement video is shared on all of I Pour Life’s social media platforms (@ipourlife and facebook.com/ipourlife) and on I Pour Life’s Youtube channel (youtube.com/IPourLife).
