The Library Presents: The Ukulele In Word & Song Virtual

Hear the story of the ukulele and its importance in U.S. music and culture over the past 150 years. Rick and Karen Maxson of Uke 66 will lead you through the history of the small instrument with words and song, including the Missouri connection to a popular ukulele performer who later became the voice of a beloved Disney character. ‘Pushing Back: From Circe to #MeToo’ March 26 at Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library

Adults are invited to attend Pushing Back: From Circe to #MeToo at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library, 2214 Brentwood Blvd.

The stories of Circe, Captain Marvel and the #MeToo movement all revolve around women speaking up and fighting back. Join Missouri State University professors Dr. Erin Kenny, Michael Frizell and Dr. Holly Holladay, as they connect centuries-old powerful female deities, modern American-made superheroines and current movements in the media for a stirring discussion of female power and where we go from here.

Art Exploration at The Library Station

‘Art Exploration’ Jan. 19 at Library Station

Families with children in grades K-6 are invited to attend Art Exploration at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, in the Library Station Story Hour Room, 2535 N. Kansas Expressway.

Come and create using your imagination and a range of artistic styles and mediums. This month’s theme is Pop Art and Printmaking. Materials will be provided.
