Springfield, Missouri is home to a vibrant artistic community. This exhibition, located in Avant Art the Museum's flexible social gallery, highlights and celebrates the creativity of our community focusing on artists living and working in the many neighborhoods that make up our city. This exhibition not only concentrates on the artists on display but also their neighborhoods and what it means to live and work creatively in Springfield.
Join Meghan Rowswell (MadMegh's Studio), the artist representing Missouri in the current special exhibition "4x4: 2018 Midwest Invitational Exhibition," for a unique workshop focused on soft sculpture (the art of creating pattern and form using textiles).
Textiles are a uniquely challenging medium to use for sculpture because of its flatness and lack of rigidity, but its textural qualities and associations make it an extremely rewarding experience.
