Back in the 1970’s & 1980’s, I loved taking photos with my Canon AE-1 film camera (WAY before digital!) After graduating from college, I entered the business world and put away my camera. I worked in retail for most of my career, owning and operating two gift shops.
After closing my second gift shop, I started a short-lived magazine. Health issues for both my husband and I caused me to call it quits on the magazine way earlier than I had planned, but, because I wrote and photographed everything for my magazine, it renewed my interest in photography. Some of the places that I have photographed no longer exist except IN those photographs!
I also enjoy exploring new ways to present my creations from photomosaico (a technique I developed of cutting and layering several photographs together to create a three dimensional image), embroidering on my photographs, and assembling multimedia creations involving my photographs and other accouterments that I feel are appropriate for enhancing the feel of the image and the story I am trying to tell.
I don’t know who said it, but I love this quote - “The importance of photography isn’t what is taken today, but what remains in 100 years.” Digital imagery is great, but PRINTING is where the impact is and is what preserves memories!
As a photographer who rarely has the opportunity to travel far from home, I focus on the world around me. I strive to capture the enchantment in the ordinary and the charm in the commonplace. I regard my photographs as specific captures of time never to be reproduced exactly as they were the first time I recorded them. Most of my current images are landscape or nature captures. I am venturing more into the abstract, photographing ordinary things and presenting them in a new way.
I also enjoy exploring new ways to present my creations from photomosaico (a technique I developed of cutting and layering several photographs together to create a three dimensional image), embroidering on my photographs, multimedia creations (involving my photographs, commercially available stock photographs, and other accouterments that I feel are appropriate for enhancing the feel of the image and the story I am trying to tell), and combining my newly found passion, assemblage art, with my photography.
