Sony Hocklander is a freelance photographer, journalist, and video storyteller with a small solo business, Sony Hocklander Creative. Outdoor, nature and travel photography is a particular passion. A former longtime reporter and editor for the Springfield News-Leader, today she focuses on writing outdoor and community guide stories, many illustrated with her images, for several local publications to help Ozarkers enjoy our natural environment. When she’s not telling community stories, she loves wandering the Ozarks outdoors or traveling with a camera in hand.
Art and nature are synonymous for me and there is nothing I love more than exploring the Ozarks outdoors or traveling with a camera. That alone is pure enjoyment. I love capturing grand and intimate landscapes, with a special love for what I call my "rocks and water" – waterfalls, cascades, seascapes, rivers and streams – plus night skies, floral and fauna, and occasionally, wild critters. Most importantly, I love capturing the sense of peace that exudes from being immersed in a natural environment. I hope that shows in my photographic art.
